A YORKSHIRE LAD WITH PSORIASIS WHO TURNED HIS
WORLD AROUND TO LIVE THE LIFE HE DESRVES
Hi I’m David Smith, the Yorkshire lad with a heart as big as the Dales and a journey that’s more epic than a Yorkshire pudding on a Sunday roast.
Born in the charming mining village of Dalton, my life took an interesting turn as my parents parted ways just as I was gearing up for a career in the steel industry. But hey, life threw me lemons, and I turned them into a steel-plated lemonade.
At sixteen I landed a 4-year engineering apprenticeship, and I climbed the ranks like a determined mountaineer.
At seventeen, I had my appendix out, a rite of passage that most people breeze through without a second thought. Little did I know that a few months later, I would embark on a journey with a more persistent companion—psoriasis.
Fast forward to 2013, and I decided it was time to give back to the engineering world. Teaching at the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, I became a beacon of inspiration for young minds.
If you’re wondering, yes, I’ve got the qualifications to prove it—Chartered Electrical Engineer and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (more titles than a Game of Thrones character, ha ha).
Now, about the psoriasis saga. I battled it all, from creams and ointments that left me looking like a walking art project to Psorelin and Ultra-Violet light (PUVA).
But the breakthrough came when during a sunny vacation in Fuerteventura. Suddenly, spots on my back turned from a potential skin cancer scare to a eureka moment—cue the dramatic music!
I hatched a plan, excitement was in the air, and I was on a mission.
The smart TV in our holiday apartment became my research hub, and within two days, my natural control plan for psoriasis was born.
Back home, with the support of my family, the plan unfolded like a well-crafted drama. And guess what? After a mere 10 weeks, I was psoriasis-free! If that’s not a superhero origin story, I don’t know what is.
